Thanks for the Memories: History Archive Launched
On Thursday 29th March, World Football Exhibitions, successfully held the first annual Audience With the Soccer Legends fundraising event which took place in the Premier Suite of the Reebok Stadium in Bolton.
The event was a sell-out success with nearly 400 diners attending and supporting the Former Player Associations of English Premier League Clubs, Bolton Wanderers, Liverpool, Everton and Manchester City.
Lucky ticket holders were treated to a revolutionary and unique football evening with some of the greatest names in English football history meeting up and sharing their football experiences with the Audience.
BBC Television’s Ray Stubbs was the evening’s host and interviewed, live on-stage, our attending Soccer Legends. Footballers interviewed included the incomparable Sir Tom Finney, Manchester United Legends Paddy Crerand, Viv Anderson and Bryan Robson, Bolton Wanderers Legends Frank Worthington and Roy Hartle, Manchester City Legends Bert Trautmann and Mike Summerbee, Everton Legend Peter Reid, Liverpool Legend Phil Neal - the most decorated English footballer in history, as well as England’s 1966 World Cup Winners Jack Charlton and Alan Ball.
Mike Summerbee said of the evening; “What a fantastic night, a wonderful concept which is totally unique – I had a great time and am delighted the event will raise awareness for the Former Players Associations”.
Derek Mountfield, who won the European Cup Winners Cup, FA Cup and 2 League Titles with Everton, attended the evening as a member of the audience and commented; “It's important that events like this continue to be held, well done to World Football Exhibitions for putting tonight together – a fantastic evening”
Mark Bushell, World Football Exhibitions Managing Director, said; “From a football Historian’s point of view I am thrilled that we have recorded and filmed tonight’s interviews. Transcripts will be made available for research purposes to all the supportive institutions who have worked with us on this project” Bushell continued “This is just the beginning of collecting a valuable oral history archive”.
Event’s Manager Anthony Howarth said of the evening; “You can see what we have achieved, brining together these fantastic football names - both former team-mates and opponents alike - in the true spirit of the game. Now it’s time to look forward to the next World Football Exhibitions event on the football calendar!”
